Work In Comics on Optimum Wound: Four Great Creator Resources
Here’s How You Become More Productive (Part 1)
How many times does this happen to you, you’re all pumped up ready to kick off your day. You begin to work on your project and just like that you get sidetracked. One thing leads to another and 2 hours later you find yourself scratching your head asking “where did the time go?” Ever wonder why you just can’t get focused? Maybe it’s that little voice at the back of your head, pulling you away from your work, telling you that it’s ok to play warcraft or read emails or check out youtube or tweet or text or chat on facebook with that guy you haven’t spoken to since grade 2….there’s always tomorrow right? Most of us have the problem of opening up a browser window and away we go on our endless journey of surfing the net. There are just too many distractions today and it can be hard to just get stuff done. Whatever the case may be, there are ways to help eliminate distractions and become more productive.
Managing Your Time Effectively
Deadlines, Appointments, Meetings, Everyday errands and the list goes on and on. These are just some of the daily tasks most of us have to deal with. If you’re like us then you know that sometimes it all can get over whelming. This is for anyone whether you are working in comics or not. There are so many things that need to be done and at the same time so many distractions. Here are Work In Comics we are always on a quest to find new ways to work efficiently, however you still have to make time to relax and grab a cold one with friends every now and then. There are different methods out there to help with Time Management for individuals and teams. Some people create “TO DO” lists on paper, others use their email/calendars to keep on track. A lot of people have now resorted to their mobile phones with several apps to help them get organized. One question that we’ve had, and we know many of you might be thinking the same thing is: What program, app, or method should I use that will best work for me or my team? In an article written by Meryl K Evans http://webworkerdaily.com/author/meryldotnet/ she reaches out to the community experts to ask just that, “What’s their favourite time management app and why they chose them?”
Where Do New Ideas Come From?
One the things we talked about in a previous article was “creative block” http://news.septagonstudios.com/?p=1137 and how to remove those obstacles standing in your way so that you’ll be able to get inspired and produce great work. But one of the questions that people still ask is: Where exactly do I get these NEW IDEAS from and How do I find them? Now we talked about some things that may inspire you, like a walk in the park or listening to your favourite band, or playing that awesome video game. These are all really great sources for inspiration. But once you are inspired what next? What do you do? The logical answer would be –I get right to it, and start working, which does make sense however, how long will that inspiration last? In an article written by Katherin http://www.ehow.com/members/katherin.html she explains an easy 3 step process on how to keep that inspiration alive and gain new ideas.
How Do You Solve Creative Block?
You’ve had the most kick ass ideas floating around in your head all week. You’ve been looking forward to transferring them to paper. So you grab your pencils, markers, inks, and begin to draw. And then the unthinkable happens, IT HITS YOU!!! You have just been struck by a case of Creative Block. So what is Creative Block, well creative block is the equivalent to writers block. Once it creeps up on you it stops you from spilling out your ideas or any ideas for that matter. In other words it’s the inability to create, to draw, to paint, to produce. The reality is, it happens to all of us whether you’re an artist, designer, or writer–or someone that just wants to get their ideas out. We’ve all experienced it. The main question remains: How do you get rid of it? How do you remove the “BLOCK” from Creative. In this article written by Alex Cornell http://blog.iso50.com/author/alex he sits down with various professionals and asks them what is it that they do to overcome creative block.
Want to Work with Mark Millar?
The independent side of the comics industry woke up to some great news over the past week, a chance of a lifetime to work with the one and only Mark Millar. But first lets take you back to some notable collaborations that Mark Millar has done. Recently he released “Kick Ass” which now is a major motion picture with Romita JR. Prior to that his critically acclaimed “Wanted” series with JG Jones was a major motion picture and now he’s about to release Nemesis with Steve Mcniven.

Career Paths
Written by: Dr. Preston Park Cooper
–Cool Careers Without College for People Who Love Manga, Comics, And Animation (Cool Careers Without College series) (Library Binding)
Just from the title, I was provoked to think about the whole issue. “Is the point of this,” I wondered, “to get kids excited about this stuff before they even graduate from high school, so they can kind of get a head start?” A quick look through the start suggested to me that the answer to that question was “No,” which bothered me, because a “no” response made me feel too much like they were suggesting “Hey, 18-year-olds! Not planning on going to college? Have a look at what Comics, Manga, and Animation have to offer!”
Don’t we want to encourage the youth to try to go to college? What happened to the American conspiracy to convince young people that they practically don’t have a choice but to give college a try if they possibly can? Are we just not doing that conspiracy anymore? Or is the possibility that college may not be for everyone just an unfortunate fact that I’m not facing?
